AGRICULTURAL FIELD DAY: Sustainable Agriculture as the tool to combat environmental problems that Malawi is facing as nation.
On the 24th August TAPP, (Trustees of Agricultural Promotion Progammes) and Ministry of Agriculture and food security jointly attended an agricultural Field Day organised by the AEDC of Chiwamba EPA in Lilongwe. Among guests attended the function include; T/A Chimutu, GVH, Chiefs of the surrounding area, and representative from African Institute of Corporate Citizenship (AICC) THEME OF THE FUNCTION: Sustainable Agriculture as the tool to combat environmental problems that Malawi is facing as nation. TECHNOLOGIES DISPLAY DURING THE FUNCTION MANURE: A number of different types of manure were shown on the day. These were Bokash, Chimato, frame and pit manure. CONSERVATION AGRICULTURE: About five stands were created for the guest to appreciate how TAPP has intensified the programme of conservation agriculture in Chiwamba EPA. Field under Conservation Agriculture (CA) in Chiwamba EPA (In-site lead Farmer covering field with maize stovers) The adoption rate of CA has increased in area where all follower farmers and Lead farmers have mulched their fields with Maize residues. PIT FARMING: Some of the types of pits shown to the guest were National/Aswap and MAZA pits. Some farmers have opted for pits because of rainfall problem issue in Malawi. LIVESTOCKS: The guest were show some of the Livestock that TAPP is giving to farmers one way of promoting SA with the aim of getting manure to replace the use of fertilizer. |
